The Avalanche went on their annual 4 game Island road trip. On Thursday and Friday they faced the #2 ranked team in the nation the VIU Mariners and on Saturday and Sunday they faced the #9 team in Canada the Camosun Chargers. The Avalanche came into the 4 game road trip well rested, coming off a bye weekend. Unfortunately the Av's didn't start the endeavor playing the level of volleyball they've become accustom to as this season progressed. Pair that with strong opponents and it didn't add up to many close games. The Avalanche lost all 4 matches 0-3 and head into their final weekend of regular season in a week and a half, hosting the Douglas College Royals.
There were plenty of individual highlights from the weekend, including the Avalanche Athlete of the Week Hannah Zurakowski's 50 assists, Eloise Newsome's 17 kills, Kayla Brasok's 7 blocks, and Stevie Friesen's 24 digs.
"After a really smooth trip out to Nanaimo and plenty of rest the week before, we were all quite taken aback with the level of play that our team struggled to get to. VIU and Camosun are opponents that you need to be playing your best at, and while this trip is not for the faint of heart, we still expected to see all of our preparation take shape a but more. I'm already looking at ways to help our team play better on the road, as I'm sure our players are. We will learn from it, and then move on quickly so we can showcase our style of volleyball against Douglas in a few weeks."
