Women's Volleyball Avalanche Report: Week 2

Women's Volleyball Avalanche Report: Week 2

WVB Recap:

College of the Rockies' women's volleyball team was in Abbotsford on Friday, Oct 25, facing off against the CBC Bearcats. Struggling through the first two sets with passing the Bearcat's strong the Avs found themselves down 0-2 in sets.  Rallying in the third set, the team won an extended 3rd set 26-24 before battling in a tight 4th set, coming out on top thanks to some big swings from two 4th year OH's Ella Nichols and Rylee Bell.  The 5th set started well for the Av's, they took a 3-0 lead and never looked back, winning the game 3-2.

Both teams returned for a rematch the following day.  The Avalanche won a back-and-forth 1st set 26-24. The 2nd set was all Avalanche until CBC stormed back late in the set, earning a 2nd set win and a 3-1 match win, splitting the weekend with the Avs.

"After a smooth travel day on Thursday, and solid game preparation for the Bearcats, we started the game on Friday with unusually poor in-service reception," said coach Bryan Fraser. "CBC served great, and we simply couldn't keep the ball in play. We were able to take advantage of some 3rd set CBC service errors and started to gain confidence again, bringing new life into the game for the Avs.  It was a mentally exhausting game, and I was happy to see how resilient we could be despite the slow start."

"On Saturday both teams played great in the 1st set. Some plays right at the end helped the Avs to secure the 1st set. We continued our play making in the 2nd and had total control over the set up until the 16-11 mark. CBC then capitalized on a few of our mistakes and found new energy. That, mixed with some major errors from us at the end of the 2nd set, were momentum changers. We need to learn from our mistakes, as games and sets are won in the PACWEST right at the end. That's where we must thrive moving forward."
