Avalanche Athlete of the Week: Hannah Gray
The College of the Rockies Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week is 2nd-year outside hitter Hannah Gray, following two strong performances against the nationally ranked Capilano Blues. On Friday, the #14 Avs hosted the #2 team in Canada and battled through a tough start before finding rhythm behind Gray’s creativity on offense. She led the Avs with 10 kills, added 9 digs, and passed an impressive 2.07 in serve receive as COTR pushed the Blues in a competitive third set.
In Saturday’s rematch, Hannah continued to shine individually despite Capilano’s error-free play and relentless defense. She contributed 6 kills, 6 digs, and a 1.94 passing rating, once again leading by example with her poise and consistency.
Head coach Bryan Fraser praised her growth and adaptability, saying, “What I really enjoyed about Gray’s play this weekend was her creativity in her attacking… she adapted really well. Her serve receive has always been a staple of her game, and this weekend she did a good job adapting to some different serves that the Blues were throwing at us. Hannah works so hard on her game and next semester she’ll be put to the test, with each game being hugely important for our goal of making playoffs.”
The Avs close the first half in 3rd place and return to action January 9th and 10th in Abbotsford against CBC
