107.5 2DAYFM Athlete of the Week
The College of the Rockies Men’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week is 5th-year outside hitter Diego Policarpo, who delivered a historic weekend to close out his final regular season as an Avalanche. In back-to-back five-set wins over the Capilano Blues, Diego officially cemented his place in PACWEST history by setting a new all-time conference kills record, finishing the weekend with 1,308 career kills.
Entering the weekend needing 29 kills to surpass the previous PACWEST record, Policarpo surged toward the milestone with a massive performance on Friday night. He recorded 17 kills, along with 7 digs and 4 blocks, helping the Avs secure their 16th win of the season.
On Saturday, Diego continued his dominant play, and early in the fourth set he hammered down the kill that lifted him to the top of the PACWEST record books. He finished the match with 14 kills, pushing the new record to 1,308, and added 6 digs and a block in the Avs’ second straight five-set victory—marking a program-best 17th regular-season win.
Head Coach Cisco Farrero reflected on the significance of Diego’s achievement:
“I’m so happy for Diego to set the PACWEST all-time kills record; he’s been an offensive force for his entire career and has carried our program offensively the entire time. He’s missed a number of matches this season with a shoulder ailment but it’s getting stronger each day in preparation of conference championships and this weekend it was great to see him let it loose. He’s the ultimate fan favourite and the most explosive athlete in the conference and he caps off an incredible regular season with 2 more dynamic performances as we finish 25/26 with a 17-3 mark, the best in our program history.”
