After being named PACWEST Player of the Year, Top Outside Hitter, and a First-Team Conference All-Star ahead of the PACWEST Championships, Diego Policarpo delivered back-to-back spectacular performances in Nanaimo, leading the Avs to their first-ever CCAA Nationals berth. Over the course of 8 sets across two matches, Diego scored an impressive 60 points and passed 2.4 as the Avs' top receiver, earning a well-deserved spot on the Tournament All-Star Team.
In Friday’s semifinal against the Camosun Chargers, Diego put on a performance for the ages, recording 32 points (28 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks) to secure the Avs’ spot in the gold medal match. On Saturday, despite a 3-1 loss to the Douglas Royals in the championship match, Diego continued to shine, tallying 28 points (22 kills, 2 aces, 4 blocks). As team captain, he was the emotional leader for the Avs throughout the match.
Coach Farrero shared his thoughts on Diego’s remarkable performance:
“What more can be said about Diego this season? He’s had the best offensive season in PACWEST history, and this weekend, to carry us the way he did, was next-level. On Friday, he was absolutely dominant in every phase of the game, and that performance, with a bid to nationals on the line, was as good as I’ve ever seen in a big moment. Saturday, the Royals made him work for his 28 points, but he still showed his dominance. Diego’s offense has been spectacular all year long, but this weekend, he had his two best passing matches of his career. His blocking and defense were consistently solid, contributing to a truly incredible individual performance. I’m so proud of the leader he has become, and I don’t envy our opponents in trying to devise a plan to stop him.”
