Avalanche Athlete of the Week: Daivan Scherman
After a hard-fought weekend against the nationally ranked Douglas Royals, the Avalanche are proud to name third-year middle Daivan Scherman as this week’s Athlete of the Week.
In Friday’s five-set battle, Daivan was a dominant presence at the net, finishing with 7 kills, 6 blocks, and 2 digs in a marathon match that pushed the Royals to the limit.
On Saturday, the Avs showed tremendous resilience—coming back from a two-set deficit to win in five—and Daivan once again delivered. She led the team with 9 kills, added 2 blocks, and contributed 3 digs, playing a central role in the Avs' gritty comeback victory.
Head coach Bryan Fraser praised Daivan’s impact and consistency:
“Daivan has been doing a lot of work under the radar so far this season. She’s a team leader who goes about her business with a high level of focus and commitment to her craft. The middle position can be a thankless job at times, and Daivan knows and embraces this role. We had a big focus on earning points through our middles this weekend, and Daivan trained hard for her opportunities—it clearly paid off.”
The Avalanche now sit at 4–4 and return home next week for two key matchups against the Capilano Blues.
