Boston Thiessen, Year 3, Setter

107.5 2DAY FM Athlete of the Week

Third-year setter Boston Thiessen has been named the Avalanche Men’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week after leading the team to back-to-back 3–0 sweeps on Friday and Saturday. With two decisive victories over the Camosun Chargers, the Avalanche officially clinched first place in the PACWEST regular-season standings, and Thiessen was central to the team’s dominant performance—directing the offence with poise, balance, and precision.

On Friday, Thiessen recorded 36 assists, 5 digs, 1 kill, and 1 block as the Avalanche offence operated at an impressive .425 team hitting percentage. He matched that level again on Saturday, delivering another 36 assists, along with 6 digs, 3 aces, and 1 block, showcasing consistent command of the game plan.

Coach Farrero praised Thiessen’s leadership and feel for the position:

“Boston runs our show. Plain and simple, Boston just gets what it means to be a setter and to lead our team on the court. His feel for running an offence with balance, for keeping his hitters happy and for staying composed in big moments is unmatched. Boston has our team hitting at 32% efficiency on the season as a whole and this weekend, he executed our gameplan to precision at the highest level.”

Thiessen’s performance not only fueled two key wins but also underscored the impact he’s had throughout the season as the team’s offensive engine.
