College of the Rockies' women's volleyball program is pleased to announce the signing of Eloise Newsome, a 6-foot tall Outside Hitter from Cranbrook.

Currently a grade 12 student at Mount Baker Secondary, Newsome will play in her 7th season of club volleyball with the East Kootenay Volleyball Club (EKVC) this year. She has trained in the Volleyball Canada Regional Excellence Program for the past four years, in 2021 she helped her EKVC team win gold at Provincials while also earning a Provincial All-Star award.

"I'm very excited to join the Avalanche Women's Volleyball program." Newsome said. "I'm looking forward to furthering both my academic and athletic journeys at the College. I've gone to many development camps run by Coach Bryan, which is why I'm confident in my choice to join the team. I know I want to continue to learn from him and be a part of the team he's created. I've watched the Avalanche games for many years and I'm so grateful I get to be a part of this awesome program."

While playing with the Avs, Newsome will also be enrolling in University General Studies courses at the College, an option that will provide her with the opportunity to try out different subjects to find what most appeals to her.

"We are thrilled to be adding Eloise to our 2024-25 roster," said coach Bryan Fraser. "Her volleyball development over the past few years has been fun to watch. She has a deep understanding of the game and shows a work ethic that will benefit her development and will add to our already high team expectations. She is a strong academically and is going to be a local fan favorite in the coming seasons."
