College of the Rockies Avalanche welcome local athlete for 2023/24 season

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Chloe Quaife, a 5 ft. 8 in. outside hitter from Cranbrook for the 2023/2024 season.

Quaife was born and raised in Cranbrook and will soon graduate from Mount Baker Secondary School. She played club volleyball with the Fernie Volleyball Club (FVC) and the East Kootenay Volleyball Club (EKVC) for the past five years and now is a part of the EKVC U18 team. She helped her club team to win bronze at Nationals last year and attended this year's AAAA volleyball provincials with her senior high school team. A beach volleyball player as well, Quaife attended the provincials at Spanish Banks in Vancouver in 2021.

A multi-sport athlete, Quaife also played basketball and soccer throughout school, volleyball has always been her favourite sport to compete in.

"I'm extremely excited to be joining the Avalanche women's volleyball team," Quaife said. "I can't wait to train and play alongside these amazing Avs athletes that I have watched over the years. I have taken part in many of Coach Bryan's local development programs, and I look forward to further growing my game with his leadership. Living in this beautiful area and playing volleyball has always been a dream of mine. The College is the perfect place for me to continue my studies and play volleyball while being surrounded by my friends and family."

Quaife intends to take the College's Pre-Education certificate program when she joins the College in the fall of 2023.

"Chloe has been on our radar for a number of years now and we are pleased that we have our outside hitter positions now filled for the upcoming season," said women's coach Bryan Fraser. "Chloe is a gifted athlete and has been developing into a quality outside hitter with her EKVC U18 team. I'm looking forward to having her in our gym and seeing her develop both on and off the court. She is academically driven and will add a lot to our program and the values we ask our athletes to uphold."

The Avalanche's 2022/23 season came to an end with them playing host to the PACWEST Provincial Championships. The men's team earned a bronze medal and the women narrowly missed earning one of their own.
