College of the Rockies Avalanche sign multisport athlete out of Alberta

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Krista McKnight a 5 ft. 4 in. athlete from Walsh, Alberta for the 2021/2022 season.

McKnight who was raised on a ranch in southeastern Alberta, participated in everything from barrel racing to snowboarding when she was growing up. Her true passion, however, is volleyball.

Currently in her senior year at Eagle Butte High School in Dunmore, Alberta, she began playing volleyball in grade 6. In 2018, she helped her high school varsity team become League and Zone champions. They would go on to place fifth at the ASAA 3A Provincials. She has also played club volleyball with the Southeast Alberta Volleyball Club, a team which has finished Top 5 in Division 1 for four of the past five years. She is excited to be a part of the Avalanche program.

"The moment I spoke with Coach Fraser and the administration, I knew the College was the right choice for me," McKnight said. "Everyone is extremely helpful, and I love the supportive, small college atmosphere. I am excited to learn and grow with my teammates and take my game to the next level. Coach Fraser's extensive on-court experience will provide amazing insight into what it takes to compete at this level. Attending school at the College is the perfect fit for me because it will allow me to pursue my post-secondary education while playing volleyball and living in the beautiful Rocky Mountains!"

McKnight will balance her commitment to the team with studies in the College's Kinesiology program.

"I'm really looking forward to working with Krista for the 2021/22 season," said Bryan Fraser, Avalanche women's volleyball coach. "She understands the game and wants to take her skills to the next level. With her drive to learn and improve, I'm certain she is going to become an important player for our program and will be a positive addition to the culture we are building. We are lucky to have her as one of our student athletes."

All PACWEST intercollegiate competition has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. College of the Rockies' Avalanche players continue to train in anticipation of the return of competitive action.
