College of the Rockies Avalanche sign lifelong athlete out of Saskatchewan

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Rylee Bell, a 5 ft. 9 in. outside hitter from La Ronge, Saskatchewan for the 2021/2022 season.

Bell comes by her passion for volleyball naturally as both of her parents played college volleyball in Kamloops before continuing to pursue their passion for the sport through coaching. Bell began playing the sport as soon as she was able and knew by age 14 that she wanted to continue to do so as long as possible.

Demonstrating her commitment, Bell and her family travelled over 240 kilometres, twice a week, so she could be a part of the Prince Albert Toppers club team. Bell was a member of the team for three years, acting as captain for two. She was then recruited to play for the Saskatchewan Stealth in her U17 year.

"I chose to come to College of the Rockies because of the environment," Bell said. "The way that the coach, Bryan, described the community that surrounds the College sounded perfect for me. I believe that this team can help me grow not only as a volleyball player but as a person."

Bell will balance her commitment to the team with studies in the College's Biology and Medicine pre-major associate degree program.

"Rylee is going to be an essential member of our program as she has everything we're looking for in a recruit," said Bryan Fraser, Avalanche women's volleyball coach. "Her athletic ability and power in her attack is very impressive. She's passionate about the game and has one of the best work ethics I have come across. What stands out most about her is her pursuit of academic excellence, which is going to take her very far. I am fortunate for the opportunity to work with Rylee next season."

All PACWEST intercollegiate competition has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. College of the Rockies' Avalanche players continue to train in anticipation of the return of competitive action.
