College of the Rockies Avalanche sign Fort St. John middle

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Brynn Shaw, a five ft. 11 in. middle from Fort St. John, B.C. for the 2020/2021 season.

Shaw began seriously pursuing volleyball in grade nine and has played the middle position throughout her career. She has been committed to the Dawson Creek Volleyball Club for the past three years, making the 45-minute drive to practice, twice a week. She was also named captain of her high school North Peace Grizzlies in her senior year.

While at the College, Shaw plans to pursue an Associate of Science degree.

"Committing to College of the Rockies has been such an exciting step for me heading into post-secondary," she said. "The campus has such a great community atmosphere and smaller class sizes are a huge bonus. The team welcomed me with such open arms, I can't wait to spend the 20/21 season playing alongside them."

Women's Avalanche coach, Bryan Fraser is looking forward to Shaw's contributions to the team.

"I am thrilled that Brynn has chosen to join our program for next season," he said. "She has the dedication to the sport of volleyball that our program is looking for. I have full confidence that she is going to develop into a really strong player. She has a very positive attitude to go along with her athleticism and I'm looking forward to working with her."

The Avalanche men's and women's volleyball teams wrapped up their 2019/20 season in February.
