College of the Rockies Avalanche sign Swift Current middle

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Hannah Klassen, a five ft. 11 in. middle from Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Klassen, a grade 12 student at Swift Current Composite School, has played volleyball since sixth grade for both school and club teams. She eventually earned the positions of assistant captain of her high school team and captain of her club team, the Jr. Sundogs. Named team MVP in her grade 12 year at high school provincials, Klassen has also been part of the U15 Jr. Sundogs provincial champion team, and earned spots on Team Saskatchewan for her U15 and U17 years.

"I chose to join the Avalanche because the program will push me to become a better volleyball player while also helping me to achieve my academic goals," Klassen said. "When I visited the school, all of the girls and the coach were very welcoming and I immediately loved the atmosphere. I loved the size of the school and the city of Cranbrook as well. I'm confident that this is the best place for me."

"I am really excited that Hannah chose College of the Rockies to begin her post-secondary volleyball career," said Bryan Fraser, women's Avalanche coach. "She's a slightly underrated player with a lot of upside and a great attitude toward the game. She has the drive to become an exceptional middle, and with her work ethic and passion for volleyball, she is going to fit in really well with the team and with the culture we are building."

While at the College, Klassen will be enrolled in General Studies with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.
