College of the Rockies Avalanche sign Kamloops setter

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Kianna Woods, a five ft. 7 in. setter from Kamloops, B.C.

Woods, a grade 12 French Emersion student at South Kamloops Secondary School, has played volleyball since she was five years old. She currently plays for the Kamloops Volleyball Association u18 team. In her impressive volleyball career, Woods has been chosen to play on the u15 Zone 2 team, representing the interior of B.C., along with many other elite athletes. Alongside her high school team, she has twice attended provincial championships and was awarded second all-star recognition in her grade 10 year.

"Volleyball has enriched my life in many ways," Woods said. "It helps me to set personal goals in all areas of my life and I've been able to form lasting friendships in my home community and in the larger volleyball community across the province. My visit to College of the Rockies left me excited about attending school in the welcoming community of Cranbrook and I'm looking forward to being a part of the Avalanche team."

I am really excited that Kianna has decided to join our Avalanche program next season," said Bryan Fraser, women's Avalanche coach. "She is a dynamic athlete with a bright setting future. She fits in well with our plans for building the women's program; she is a hard worker and has a willingness to continue to improve. I can't wait to begin working with her."

While at the College, Woods will be enrolled in University Arts and Sciences.

The Avalanche men's and women's volleyball teams closed out their regular season with both teams earning spots in the 2020 PACWEST Provincial Championships February 20 to 22.
