College of the Rockies Avalanche sign new outside hitter

College of the Rockies' women's Avalanche volleyball program has signed Hilary Leuken, a five ft. 9 in. outside hitter from Grande Prairie, AB.

Leuken, a grade 12 student at Brentwood College School in Mill Bay, B.C., has filled the role of outside since she started playing volleyball in fifth grade. She has played for the Wolves Volleyball Club in Grande Prairie, where the team won Division 1 Alberta Provincials and placed fifth at Nationals in the U16 category.

At the conclusion of the 2019 school season, she was awarded the Elizabeth Cosulich Award for inspirational leadership, both on and off the court, by the Brentwood College School.

"I'm very pleased that Hilary will be joining the Avalanche next season," said Bryan Fraser, women's Avalanche coach. "She is an athlete with a lot of potential both on the court and in the classroom. She will bring good energy to the team and is very athletic."

While at the College, Leuken will be enrolled in the Kinesiology diploma program.

The Avalanche men's and women's volleyball teams will host Vancouver Island University (January 24 and 25) and University of the Fraser Valley (February 7 and 8) to close out the regular season.
