Katie Friesen a 5'10" setter from Steinbach, Manitoba has committed to the College of the Rockies for the 2017/2018 season. Katie is in her last year at Steinbach Regional Secondary School and has been named captain of her high school and club team for various seasons. Katie helped guide her U16 club team to a silver medal at Nationals and has since progressed to become a member of the Red River College Rebels 18U team in Winnipeg.

Katie is an avid beach volleyball player and together with her partner won the bronze medal at the Jr. Varsity High school Provincials as well as at the Manitoba Provincial Championships. This past summer Katie was selected to train under former Olympian Wanda Guenette as part of the Team Manitoba Beach Volleyball Program.

Katie mentioned "that she is very excited to play and study in the beautiful mountain region of BC, having grown up on the prairies and that she is very excited to be a part of the COTR athletic program for the 2017/2018 season" Katie will be taking her University studies with hopes to continue her education in Kinesiology or Psychology.
