College of the Rockies Avalanche add experienced setter for 2023/24 season

College of the Rockies men's Avalanche volleyball program have signed Boston Thiessen, a 6 ft setter from Mitchell, Manitoba for the 2023/24 season.

Thiessen has a long history of winning having been named 17u provincial club volleyball all-star, 17u beach volleyball provincial champion, SCAC zone 2 AAAA high school indoor volleyball league MVP, High School AAAA provincial championship all-star, Winnipeg Free Press provincial top 10 selection, and High School provincial all-star team.

Team accomplishments have included 17u Best of the West Champions, 18u Youth Beach 2's provincial champions, AAAA high school zone 2 conference champions, and AAAA high school provincial champions.

"I really like that Boston is a winner," said men's coach Cisco Farrero. "He's been that athlete that has spent a lot of the time on the top of the podium. He's competitive on the court and puts in the work off the court that it takes to win. As a coach recruiting the setter position, you want someone that's driven to win. He's been a beach provincial champion and led his Steinbach Regional Secondary team to the prestigious Manitoba AAAA high school title this past fall. Boston has been named a provincial all-star at both the club and high school levels and I'm ecstatic to have him in our gym. Boston, a very strong student, has chosen College of the Rockies because our Kinesiology program lines up with his academic goals. I'm looking forward to having Boston come to Cranbrook in the fall and get the opportunity to coach him at the PACWEST level."

Thiessen agrees that a combination of athletics and academics convinced him to join the Avalanche in fall 2023.

"I chose College of the Rockies because of their strong academic opportunities as well as their outstanding volleyball program."

Avalanche volleyball competition will return in fall 2023.
