College of the Rockies Avalanche sign talented setter from Prince George

College of the Rockies men's Avalanche have signed Brett Kester, a 6 ft. setter from Prince George, B.C. for the 2023/24 season.

Kester attends high school at Duchess Park Secondary and played club volleyball with the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club's Kodiaks.

"Our program highlighted the setter position as a priority for us in this recruiting class and Brett was someone I noticed at Club Nationals in May of his grade 11 year," said Cisco Farrero, men's Avalanche coach. "Once I saw grade 12 film on him, it became clear he was a great fit for the Avalanche. He has the athleticism, volleyball IQ, leadership, and creativity that I look for in a setter. He comes from a very strong Duchess Park Secondary program – the defending AA provincial champs – and is very well coached, runs a sophisticated offence for a high school setter, and is highly motivated to learn the nuances of the position. I can't wait to get him in our gym."

Kester plans to enroll in the College's Kinesiology program.

"I chose the College because I believe I will be able to achieve my goals, not only on the court, but in the classroom as well," he said.

The College of the Rockies' men's volleyball team head into the Christmas break with a 9-1 record, tied for first in the PACWEST, and ranked fourth nationally.
