College of the Rockies Avalanche sign talented middle blocker

College of the Rockies men's Avalanche have signed Jack Schmiess, a 6 ft. 4 in. middle blocker from Swift Current, Saskatchewan for the 2023/24 season.

Schmiess attends high school at Swift Current Comprehensive High and plays club volleyball with Chaos Volleyball.

"I'm really excited to add Jack to our program," said Cisco Farrero, men's Avalanche coach. "He's a high energy, high-IQ, well-coached, and very experienced middle blocker who fits our fast tempo offence. His strong volleyball intelligence, coming from a great high school program and strong club coaching, fits our program to a tee."

Schmiess plans to enrol in the Business Administration – General Management program.

"I chose the College as it has everything I'm looking for in a school, both in terms of academics and the volleyball program," Schmiess said. "It's an impressive campus with perfect class sizes and great athletic facilities for training, and Cranbrook reminds me of home. I'm excited to be a part of a team with a great group of guys and to develop my skills under Coach Cisco who brings the volleyball experience and leadership I'm looking for."

The College of the Rockies' men's volleyball team is currently undefeated, tied for first in the PACWEST, and ranked fourth nationally.
