College of the Rockies sign first recruit for 2022-23 season

College of the Rockies men's Avalanche have signed Evan McGifford, a 6 ft. 5 in. middle blocker from Cranbrook for the 2022/23 season.

McGifford is currently a student at Mount Baker Secondary and plays with the East Kootenay Volleyball Club.

"I chose to sign with College of the Rockies because it in my hometown and I really like the volleyball program," McGifford said. 

McGifford will begin studies at the College in September 2022. He currently plans to enroll in the Education program held at the Cranbrook campus in partnership with the University of Victoria.

Avalanche men's coach Cisco Farrero is looking forward to having McGifford join the team.

"I'm really excited to add Evan to our program," he said. "I've had my eye on him since he was about 14 and I think he has tremendous potential at the middle blocker position. He's big, strong, smart, and coachable. He has a very bright future as a member of the Avalanche."

McGifford will begin studies at the College in September 2022. He currently plans to enroll in the Bachelor of Education program held at the Cranbrook campus in partnership with the University of Victoria.

PACWEST competition resumed for the 2021/22 season after seeing the 2020/21 season halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Avalanche Home Opener weekend will kick off on November 26. Proof of vaccination will be required to attend all games.
